Man ‘raped pair he followed to hotel room’ court told

AMAN raped two drunken women in a Bristol hotel after following them to their room, a court heard.

It is claimed Callum Kenny noticed the pair after they returned to the premises from a night out in the city centre.

A jury was told that, after following them to their room, he joined them inside and had non-consensual sex with both.

Kenny, 24, of Polkyth Road in St Austell, Cornwall, denies raping the two women in late 2018.

Sarah Regan, prosecuting, told Bristol Crown Court the women booked a room at the hotel and had a night on the town, drinking wine, sangria and gin in bars before rounding off the night at a nightclub with dancing and a shared shot of tequila.

Miss Regan said the next thing one recalled was being in the bathroom, peeking out, and seeing a naked man having what looked like “rough sex” with her friend.

When it was quiet the woman came out of the bathroom and her friend asked her if she had brought the man back, the jury was told.

Miss Regan said: “The woman thought her friend had brought the man back.

“Her friend said she [the woman in the bathroom] was with him.

“The woman had absolutely no recall of having sex with the man – she thought her friend was joking.”

The court heard police acquired CCTV from the hotel which showed the women entering the premises in the early hours.

Miss Regan said: “The two women were clearly drunk.”

The jury was shown footage of the women being given two extra room keys and going to their room.

There was also footage of Kenny returning to his room, earlier, before he left his room door slightly ajar and tried the door handles of some other rooms before sitting in reception.

Footage then captures how he noticed the two women, followed them to their room and went inside with them.

It is the Crown’s case that the women were so affected by alcohol they were not able to choose whether to agree to have sex or not.

Police were able to track down Kenny after seeing him on the hotel CCTV.

He said he and a pal had been in Bristol to watch a football match but he had decided to leave their hotel room after his friend turned in.

Kenny told police one of the women invited in him to their room and he had sex with her before the other became involved and the three had sex together.

He said after they slept he had more sex with one of the women when her friend was in the bathroom.

He admitted having had alcohol on the night in question, as well as taking less than a gram of cocaine.

He said he had consensual, unprotected sex with one before the other was an equally willing participant.

The case continues.
