Bright new look £100k revamp of youth centre to improve facilities
AYOUTH centre in St Pauls is set to be transformed, and it is hoped to be unveiled by the end of the year.
Full Circle @ Docklands was recently awarded £100,000 by Bristol City Council to continue the work they are doing with disadvantaged young people in the city.
The funding will be put towards the refurbishment, cooking classes at The Dolphin School and tutoring for young people.
Sketches have now been released detailing how the site will be improved.
Organisers hope to have the new designs implemented as soon as possible, but have said it will most likely not be ready before December/January.
The money they were awarded will be used to improve the site, making it “brighter and better”.
This includes decorations and a new floor throughout, some energy efficiency improvements and improved utilities.
Depending on costing, they also hope to improve the following:
» Soundproofing and acoustic improvement to run larger events in the sports hall
Converting the underused computer room into a multipurpose breakout space for larger conferences, events and dance classes
Creating a front facing reception, to make Docklands more welcoming
» A mezzanine level office and new first floor office for a new community organisation to join Docklands Youth and Community Centre
» Two new seating areas in the corridor/lobbies
» New shower/changing facility
» Lots of new storage for outside organisations who run activities from Docklands
» Three large-scale, youth-led artworks
The new designs were sketched based on consultations between room

They were advised by the director of Marmalade Trust, a charity reducing loneliness in the city based at Dockland’s offices, who encouraged them to increase accessibility within the centre. This led to new seating areas being created by the entrance and in the central access.
At the moment the club continues to work with disadvantaged young people by providing one-onone mentoring, sports activities, regular clubs and social opportunities.
It also partners with other youth services, police and social services. lobby and better toilet
