AN office building in Bristol has been named the best revamped workplace in the South of England and South Wales.

Eagle House, on Colston Avenue, scooped the Refurbished/Recycled Workplace Award at the British Council for Offices’ (BCO) regional awards.

The property was presented with the accolade for its “bold and imaginative” transformation into a modern workplace, the BCO said.

According to the BCO judges, the project faced “many challenges” during its refurbishment, but they were impressed by the “clear, efficient and attractive space” that was delivered through the final design.

They also said there was a “drastic improvement” to the building’s internal space, adding that the atrium, roof terrace, central staircase, and a remodelled entrance and auditorium space had brought a “sense of character” to the building.

Alistair Allison, partner at TFT Consultants and BCO South of England and South Wales judging chair, said: “The internal additions to Eagle House have majorly upgraded the workspace, whilst improvements to the building fabric and services have been cleverly integrated.

“Overall, this is a thoroughly impressive refurbishment project and the BCO judges were unanimous in deciding that this was a place we’d like to work ourselves.”

The awards ceremony took place virtually this year as part of BCO’s Festival Awards Week, which recognises the highest-quality developments in the UK.

Andy Heath, partner at Cushman & Wakefield and BCO South of

England and South Wales regional committee chair, added: “It’s fantastic to see Eagle House transformed into such a modern sanctuary for Bristolian business.

“Careful design has given the

building a new presence, character and truly activated the surrounding area, which is testament to the efforts of the project team.”

The South of England and South Wales winners will now compete with those from other regions at the BCO Virtual National Awards on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Other workplaces across the South West and Wales that received recognition include:
