This is not All Together until contributions are demanded
IREAD the recent article supplement ‘ Supporting Business’ with All Together produced in partnership with the UK Government on November 19.
Whilst I and my others totally and fully support the furlough scheme there is absolutely no mention of the three million plus self employed who have had no support from this Government whatsoever.
This includes those who were in between jobs and now apprentices being made redundant.
The Prime Minister refuses to answer questions in the House and just bleats about 2.6 million self employed helped.
The Chancellor says unfortunately many have fallen through the cracks but fails to admit these are the cracks he created. We are talking about people, Mr Chancellor, and not inanimate objects falling through cracks, and many of these People are low paid who are faced with no income, no support and potentially loss of livelihoods and all the social, economic and health issues through worry and stress.
There are regular reports of such people on the news telling their story. It is so sad.
However this is against a background where many self employed have worked and have been paid at the same time, and the billions of pounds of paid fraudulent claims.
This clearly demonstrates the total lack of the Government’s due diligence and audit control which appears to be a continual reoccurrence of this Government.
A recent example was the awarding of PPE contracts and the millions of pounds paid to consultants. Again British companies who were supplying PPE to countries all over the world refused to supply our NHS. So much for this Prime Minister’s support for British business under his Brexit banner. Fake news? Totally doubt that the people appearing on the news and in press reports telling their story are demonstrating the incompetence and unfairness of this Government. But no doubt many on furlough are very happy.
Winners and losers, that’s life, but those not financially supported will be expected to contribute to those given support. That’s fair!
Lest we forget the MPs have just had a recent pay award granted plus £10,000 one-off payment during the first lockdown for working at home. This lump sum payment apparently did not require any audit validation. Very nice thank you very much.
