Suburban Double delight for Old Cothamians in Premier Division

- Derek CUMNER postsport@b-nm.co.uk

THE Bristol Suburban League management committee have taken the unprecended decision to suspend all fixtures until the end of January, the first time the committee has taken this action in its 130year history.

The decision was taken before the latest national lockdown announcement, which now means it could be well into February before matches resume.

Only ten games beat the various problems to playing last Saturday, and credit must go to the secretaries of Lawrence Weston Athletic and Old Cothamians in the Premier Division who played a double fixture on the 3G surface at St Bede’s School. It was a good day for Old Cothamins who climbed six places to second by winning both games, 4-1 and 3-1.

Two games were played in the Senior Division. MPK Lofts travelled to Stockwood Wanderers Reserves and won 6-1 to move into second place

Ridings High changed their home game to South Bristol Sports Centre because of the weather and drew 1-1 with Wessex Wanderers. Skipper Tom Trimble was on target for Wanderers.

Danny Daly and Mitchell Goldsmith bagged braces, with Sekani House, Nicky Martin, Callum Cannings and Finley Dorrington adding further goals, to help St Vallier to an 8-0 win over Lawrence Weston Reserves to move into pole position in Division Two.

Joe Hodson scored twice to help Rockleaze Rangers B to a 4-3 victory at home to Cutters Reserves, with Will Brisco and Pete Marsden their other marksmen.

In Division Three, Rockleaze C missed a chance to go top, going down 2-1 at home to a strong Cutters A, whose goals came from Neil Grayson and Danny Hedges.

A goal from Jordan Evans earned Wessex Wanderers Reserves a point from a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke Gifford A.

Division Four leaders AFC Corinthians fell to their second successive defeat as they lost 4-0 at home to Hanham Abbotonians Reserves.

The new leaders are Redbridge Reserves after they beat Kellaway Reserves 4-1 at Manor Road, Keynsham. Jason Granville, Josh Randall, Tobias Watson and James Hignett scored their goals. Little Stoke A beat Eastville Rangers 4-0.
