Chorley overcome Derby youngsters to reach fourth round

-

NON-LEAGUE side Chorley booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round for the first time with a 2-0 win over a youthful Derby side on a freezing afternoon at Victory Park.

The National League North outfit added the coronavirus-hit Sky Bet Championship club to their list of giant-killings, having knocked out 2013 winners Wigan in the first round before beating Peterborough.

Connor Hall headed the hosts in front in the 10th minute, which left Derby - with an average age of just 19 - facing an uphill battle, before Mike Calveley made sure of a place in tonight’s draw with a close-range finish in the 84th minute.

League One Blackpool pulled off an upset against Premier League strugglers West Brom following a 3-2 penalty shootout win at Bloomfield Road.

Jerry Yates put the hosts ahead in the first half, but Semi Ajayi pulled the Baggies level in the 52nd minute. Gary Madine had Blackpool back in front just after the hourmark, but Matheus Pereira’s penalty with 10 minutes left forced extratime. Neither side could find a winner and Blackpool went into round four after winning the shootout as goalkeeper Chris Maxwell pulled off three saves.

Burnley were given a scare before coming through a penalty shootout 4-3 to beat MK Dons after the tie had ended 1-1 at Turf Moor, with Matej Vydra equalising in stoppage time. Veteran striker Cameron Jerome had given the League One side the lead in the 29th minute.

In the shootout Vydra’s spot-kick was saved but Lasse Sorensen was denied by Burnley’s Will Norris, who also kept out Ben Gladwin’s penalty to help the Premier League side through.

League One clubs Plymouth Argyle and Doncaster Rovers will also be in the draw on Monday night after knocking out Championship opposition.

Taylor Richards’ goal just before half-time gave Doncaster a 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, while the Pilgrims came from behind to win 3-2 at Huddersfield , where Argyle skipper Joe Edwards struck the crucial goal midway through the second half.

Non-league Boreham Wood , though, are out after losing 2-0 at home to Millwall .

FA Cup holders Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0 after extra-time at the Emirates Stadium.

Emile Rowe-Smith broke the deadlock in the 109th minute when he drilled in a low finish from Alexandre Lacazette’s knockdown.

Aubameyang wrapped things up with a second goal for the hosts in the 117th minute, sweeping in a low cross from Kieran Tierney.

Manchester United beat Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford with an early goal from Scott McTominay, who scored with a header.
