BRISTOL City’s game against Brentford has been postponed for a second time.

The Bees announced yesterday that the match would be suspended again.

The game was originally scheduled for January 2 but was postponed due to the Robins suspecting a Covid-19 outbreak had taken place in their camp.

Subsequent testing showed that not to be the case, and the match was rescheduled for tonight. However, the match will have to be rearranged again due to Brentford now suffering Covid-19 problems.

A statement from Bristol City read: “The club have today been notified that Brentford’s next two league fixtures have been suspended.

“Brentford informed the EFL they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following recent positive Covid-19 tests and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and Government guidance. Bristol City can confirm all players and staff tested this morning (Tuesday) all returned negatives results.”

The EFL will now investigate the incident, as the governing body does for every postponed game.

The Bees have also had to shelve their plans for facing Reading at the weekend, too.

A Brentford statement read: “After a round of Covid-19 testing yesterday, Brentford FC reported positive tests to the EFL. The guidance from the EFL medical advisor was that we should close our training ground and carry out further rounds of testing. “We informed the EFL that we would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following the tests, the closure of the training ground and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.”

Bristol City will now face Preston North End in their next game on Saturday. However, there could be problems further down the line regarding match rescheduling, with Brentford and City still in the FA Cup.
