Now let’s show our potential and kick on - Beard
MATT Beard believes his Bristol City Women group have shown their potential and can “kick on” after the Robins recorded their first win of the Barclays Women’s Super League season in style against Brighton & Hove Albion.
A Yana Daniels stunner and an Ebony Salmon brace saw the Robins secure a 3-0 win and gain their first three points at home in the league since a 1-0 win against Everton back in March, 2019.
“I’m so pleased with the performance and the clean sheet. Since I have come in, the girls have been a breath of fresh air to work with and we’re starting to see the reward of the hard work that has been put in over the last couple of weeks,” said Beard.
“I thought there was some really good individual performances and collectively I thought we were brilliant. Everyone put their bodies on the line, and the most pleasing thing is we have got a clean sheet, scored three goals and we also had a number of other chances.”
The Robins lifted themselves to within two points of Aston Villa and West Ham United, who sit 11th and 10th in the league table with City Women set to travel to West Ham next Sunday.

Beard said: “We’ve proved that we can be a team that is aggressive and press a little bit higher up the pitch. There are still areas to improve but the progress over the last two weeks has been fantastic.
“We need to stay grounded. Having a full team to select from, and with Chloe leaving, gave us a chance to bring in Molly and Kiera, which gives us a little more depth.
“The biggest thing that it allows is competition for places, you have to earn the right to be on the pitch. I’ve said to the girls from day one that everything with me will be done on merit and performance levels in training.
“I’m delighted for the the players and staff, they’re a good group of fantastic footballers and I think we can now show our potential and really kick on.”
