£1,000 gift for woodland project

A WOODLAND charity has received a donation worth £1,000 to help in the battle against climate change.

The donation made to Avon Needs Trees, based at 39 Druid Woods, Bristol, will help the charity with their 20-year mission to create a new permanent woodland in the catchment area of the River Avon.

The charity wants to plant more trees in the area which will enhance the biodiversity, provide natural flood management, enhance water and air quality and provide more public space.

They are hoping to buy 19 acres of land at Seend, near Melksham, before the spring to plant thousands of trees to benefit many local species including cuckoos.

Nikki Jones from Avon Needs Trees, thanks the the local Amazon team in Avonmouth who made the donation.

“Almost all of Avon’s woodland has disappeared,” said Nikki.

“This is disastrous for many reasons but mainly because trees are essential for combating climate change. This donation will help us work towards a greener future.”

Pioneers plan to retire
