ONE LAST THING

-

The vaccine roll-out continues to be a jaw-dropping achievement by the NHS. but another medical gamechanger was announced this week.

A trial of at-home smear tests is to be rolled out in the London area in a bid to cut the number of cervical cancers – the fourth most common cancer in women around the world.

The idea is that by making the process easier, less stressful and less invasive, more women will take the test and any abnormalities will be spotted sooner. That means earlier treatment, better outcomes, longer lives.

I’ve no idea why it’s taken so long to develop this test, when so many other medical procedures can now be done outside of a clinical setting.

Perhaps it’s because women take it for granted we’ll be poked and prodded, our dignity tested to the limit in a small cubicle with paper curtains.

Now, at last, it looks like we can take back more control of our bodies and health.

Haig Club and David Beckham

have united with artist Remi Rough to release a limited edition bottle of the award-winning single grain scotch.

Known for his graphic murals, Remi’s works can be seen around the world, from the steps of Wembley Stadium, to Paris and

New York. Says Remi: “I love surprising people with intense colour and this design for the Haig Club bottle is no exception. I hope the collaboration continues to show how art can be enjoyed no matter the size or type of canvas.” Available now at haigclub.com, priced £39.99.

Getting the right fit of trousers is a challenge when shops are still closed. Spoke Menswear has a quiz to ensure a perfect fit every time, asking everything from wrist size to how often you wear skinny jeans. I love these stone blue chinos, right, £79 (spokelondon.com).

There is going to come a time in the not-too-distant future when you want to get out of that hoodie and into a smart shirt. This Talant geometric print shirt, right, £85, from Ted Baker, would be my recommendation.

The new drop from heritage stars Lyle & Scott has some cool pieces for sporty types. This pulloverdesign nylon track jacket, with ribbed funnel quarter-zip neck and kangaroo-style front pockets, below, is a great spring transitional piece. £100, lyleandscott.com

IF you are holidaying in the UK this year, Great Yarmouth’s flat hinterland offers myriad scenic forest cycling routes as well as canoe, kayak and boating opportunities on the Broads. Clippesby Hall is a family run campsite, right, set in peaceful woodland and is a great base from which to explore the area. Facilities include a café and restaurant, football pitch, tennis courts and mini golf. Clippesby has a week’s camping from August 20, from £350 based on two adults and two children sharing a pitch, clippesbyhall. com/ 01493 367800.
