Demonstrators plan show of solidarity for Palestine

-

A DEMONSTRATION to show solidarity with Palestine is being planned in Bristol this weekend.

The protest will start at Castle Park at 2pm on Saturday before marching to College Green for a gathering of speeches.

Another demonstration is also being organised in the city centre on Saturday, with this second protest being planned by NHS workers over their pay and starting at noon in Millennium Square.

A Facebook event for the Palestine solidarity demonstration reads: “It is vital to show our solidarity always with Palestine – recently the violent atrocities imposed by the Israeli state have made this the case now more than ever.

“Israel is planning on annexing Sheikh Jarrah and further displacing hundreds of Palestinians – they need our solidarity more than ever. We will be demonstrating for peace, and remembering those lives lost.

“Starting at Castle Park, then marching to College Green for a gathering of speeches.

“Please bring PPE, water, and remember to social distance as much as possible. We are welcoming people to volunteer to speak, so please message any one of the co-hosts if you want arrange this.”

In recent days, violence has intensified in the Middle East amid warnings the situation was escalating towards full-scale war.

A second event is being held at Castle Park this weekend in support of Palestinians to mark Nakba Day, which falls on May 15 and commemorates events which caused Palestinians to lose their homes and become refugees. An exhibition is being organised by the Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign at Castle Park on both days this weekend from noon until 6pm.
