Getting down to quizness

- Channel 4, 8pm

QUICKFIRE questions and a quick-witted host make for a fun addition to the Friday night telly schedules.

Comedian Tom Allen, best known for his co-hosting skills on Bake Off: The Professionals and Extra Slice, elevates this from bogstandard general knowledge show to a funny, fresh format.

He explains: “This is the serious quiz with the silliest answers, where being clever is never enough. Over a series of mindboggling general knowledge rounds, we’ll be pushing our quizzers’ cerebral suppleness to the limit with questions on anything from Captain Cook to Kelly Brook.”

Essentially, contestants answer questions with a twist where they have to prove themselves by looking a bit daft with silly wordplay.

The last person standing has the chance to win the £25,000 jackpot.

Losers have the chance to win the silky wonder that is a Tom Allen pocket handkerchief.

In this episode, Dave, Hayley, Tharun and Saundra fight it out.

It’s rare that anyone ever wants to hear the often painful small talk with quiz show contestants, but Tom makes these interactions fly, mocking one quizzer for his concrete sales job and branding one as looking like “a really fun cowboy”.

The many, many rounds include Subbly Jubbly, that involves exchanging words for “dibble”, “mibble” and “wibble”, a Brain Chain memory game, Risky Quizness where points can be lost and finally a Super Subbly Jubbly of seven questions to win the jackpot.

Perfect for the whole family to join in at home.
