Police patrols aim to stop harbour dippers
BRISTOL police have been out patrolling the harbourside after a rise in wild swimming in the area.
Local policing officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary were out on a boat speaking to people sitting on the edge of the Bristol Harbour about safety near the water.
Police tweeted a picture on social media with a caption that read: “Officers from Bridewell T3 have been out on the harbour talking to people sat around the edges about safety.”
Last week, a warning was issued over “irresponsible” wild swimmers entering the waters.
It was made after the tragic death of a man who entered the waters at Narrow Quay.
A Bristol City Council warning read: “The dangers to anyone entering the water exist both on the surface and beneath. Bristol harbourside remains a working harbour with vessels coming and going all year round and many surface water activities taking place across the harbourside.
“Whilst these activities are regulated, they do pose a risk to anyone entering the water unexpectedly.”
