Could your moggy be a film star?

A HUNT has been launched for a cat to appear in a starring role in a new film in Bristol.

Student filmmaker Will Mead wants to find a ginger moggy to appear in his new short film, A Hand in the Grass.

The 20-minute film is being shot in Bristol and tells the story of Dennis, a man in his mid-40s who finds himself separated from his wife and facing rebuilding his life alone.

Not liking living on his own, Dennis gets a cat for company – and the pair form a special bond.

The cat – called Brian – will have a starring role in the film and needs to be calm around the camera.

Filming will take place over two days in August.

Will, 20, said: “Dennis finds himself recently separated and lonely and he needs to fill up the holes left in his life. This sees him connect with things he hasn’t before. He gets Brian the cat and they form a real bond and respect and understanding for one another. Brian helps him move on with his life and develop a better understanding of himself. The cat ideally needs to be ginger and male and be calm on set and comfortable around people.”

It is the first foray into filmmaking for Will, who is currently studying English at university, and he hopes to release the film this autumn.

The cat who plays Brian will be paid a fee for its time.
