I wouldn’t find basin safe

-

WITH regard to swimming in the Cumberland Basin and the fact many cannot see the danger in it, well I’m not an expert but there are lock gates that are used to keep the water in the docks and have sluice gates which can be opened which could cause strong currents.

The docks also sometimes open the gates to scour the mud out of the basin, so would the harbour master have to make sure no one was in the water first?

The people wanting to do the swimming also mentioned the water by the Cottage Inn but the under fall yard also has sluice gates. They also let water flow through the docks after high rainfall so the Frome can discharge more water and, by using the Feeder canal, help the Avon River.

I am not an expert but apart from the thought of what rats do in the water and other things put in there, plus what’s hidden under the water, it’s not a place I would feel safe swimming in.
