Swan edging closer to Wimbledon draw
BRISTOL’S Katie Swan carries British hopes into the final round of qualifying at Wimbledon.
The 22-year-old overcame a ranking gap of 181 places to beat American Caty McNally 4-6 7-6 (4) 7-5 in the second round yesterday.
Swan, ranked 290, will today take on Australian Arina Rodionova for a place in the main draw.
Swan is the sole Briton left in qualifying after Naiktha Bains, 23, was beaten 6-1 6-2 by Bulgarian eighth seed Tsvetana Pironkova in the women’s rounds while, in the final round of the men’s qualifying, Britons Arthur Fery, 19, and Anton Matusevich, 20, both lost.
