Mobile Covid test service launched

-

A MOBILE Covid unit is to set up in Portishead in a bid to offer tests to more people.

North Somerset Council closed its static testing site at Somerset Hall in the town last week after deciding to have the mobile service instead.

The move follows an increasing number of people taking regular Covid tests at home.

A council spokesman said: “As more people get used to taking their regular rapid Covid tests at home, we are adapting our service to bring testing to as many people as possible. This means we are transferring our testing sites to mobile units.”

He said this meant they were able to get to different parts of the community and respond to unusual patterns in case rates.

Mobile testing stations already operate in Clevedon, Nailsea and Weston-super-Mare. They visit Queens Square in Clevedon on Mondays and Thursdays, the For All Healthy Living Centre in Weston-super-Mare on Wednesdays,

Scotch Horn in Nailsea on Fridays and the seafront in Weston by the Tropicana on Saturdays and Sundays. One will visit Portishead Lake Grounds on Tuesdays. The units open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5pm at weekends.

A second mobile testing unit is due to launch soon.

A testing team continues to be based at Hutton Moor car park, Weston, on weekdays from 8.30am to 6pm and at weekends from 9am to 1.30pm
