You can’t rewrite history

-

RE. the slave trade: you can’t rewrite the human heart, Ms Hockin (Post Letters, June 28), no matter how many historical facts your rational mind prompts you to list.

It’s ironic that, as a man, I am one of your ‘delicate flowers.’ But your attack on us is wrong. We know full well we can’t rewrite history or hide facts. Putting Colston’s statue in a museum, with his story, goes along with that.

Relativism has no place in morality. Goodness is absolute, timeless.

We delicate flowers believe with Sam Harris that Human Well-being is paramount.

Whenever people are traded as cattle, with a fair few dying along the way, that is evil! The rule you cherish, Ms Hockin, applies equally to philanthropists such as Colston.

You can’t rewrite history. There are dead slaves in that investment portfolio.

You can’t be praised if your hands are bloody...
