Invaded, not discovered

-

IN her recent letter (Post, June 28) Davina Elaine Hockin tells us that history is fact and cannot be changed.

In the same letter she mentions Britain’s growing collection of lands overseas “discovered by British traders and the Royal Navy.”

As far as I am aware these countries were already populated at the time, and so the correct word to use would be “invaded” rather than “discovered”.

In fact there are only 22 countries in the world that Britain has NOT invaded.

Glorious history or shameful past? It depends who writes it. Frank Palmer Horfield
