Double whopper for seaside town?

-

A SECOND Burger King could be heading to Weston-super-Mare under plans that have been submitted to North Somerset Council.

The fast food giant is looking to convert the former Frankie and Benny’s Unit at the Flowerdown Retail Park into a new drive-thru restaurant.

If approved, it would join the town’s existing Burger King at the Sovereign Shopping Centre.

According to the application, an extension is proposed to be added to the current building and adjustments to the car park are also set to be made.

Highways England and Avon and Somerset Police have both made no objections to the application.

A public objection on the council’s website highlights concerns over a lack of space for the drive through amid fears that a queue of cars could block the entrance to the car park.

Despite this, the application is expected to be approved.

Threadneedle UK Property, which represents Burger King, said: “The proposal represents an opportunity to welcome a new operator to the retail park, further enhancing the park’s offer to local people, as well as the chance to visually uplift and upgrade the exterior of the building.

“During the challenging and uncertain times of the coronavirus pandemic, Burger King has remained a strong employer and has sought to keep as many restaurants open as possible to retain jobs and to maintain their food offer.”
