GREENWAY HOUSE
Galmpton, near Brixham, Devon, TQ5 0ES Every visit to a National Trust property is a fantastic opportunity to broaden and expand my (grown-up) children’s minds. They gained an appetite for history, architecture and aesthetics, as well as seeing the past brought to life. During one particular visit to Greenway, in Devon, I got the chance to play Agatha Christie’s very own piano and this physical/concrete link to my favourite author was something that I will cherish forever.
To walk in her metaphorical shoes, in her garden and down the winding paths to the sparkling River Dart was not only a dream come true, but it enabled us to see the birthplace of her inspiration, and imagine each character coming to life as we toured the grounds. Poirot, Marple and Tuppence, using their ‘little grey cells’ to solve a mystery, to save the day and simply enjoy life.
