Love Island ‘Comments bear no resemblance to the Jake we know’

OVE Island has spoken out after contestant Jake Cornish’s ex-girlfriend accused him of ‘gaslighting’ and ‘toxic behaviour’ on social media.
The 24-year-old water engineer from Weston-super-Mare said he applied for the show after ‘an incredibly lonely lockdown’ following his split with his girlfriend of seven years.
But an unnamed ex of Jake’s has reportedly been left gobsmacked following claims he was single in the pandemic, saying she had dated him for four months before the pair broke things off in January.
Love Island said the contestant has no way of defending himself from the ‘hurtful’ labels.
The ex has since defended herself after fans of the ITV show accused her of being harsh towards the reality star.
In the now-deleted tweets she wrote: “Lonely and single for eight months? Have a day off.
“A note to those who have told me/ messaged me to ‘be kind,’ I’m a good person with a good heart, hurt mine and I’ll hurt yours.”
“I realise how my comment may be viewed as being damaging, but it’s damaging when you’re being gaslighted. Toxic behaviour, denying and making you question facts and feelings.”
Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse where a person is
made to question their sanity by another who manipulates them.
She continued: “Being angry doesn’t mean I’m being hateful, it means I am loving myself enough to get upset at my own mistreatment.”
She went on to admit she was angry and upset by what she had seen Jake claim on the show, and said she was only sharing her own side of their story.
In response to the tweets, a Love Island spokesperson said: “Jake has no means of defending himself from these labels, which are no doubt hurtful for his family and friends to read.”
“It is particularly disappointing to read at a time when we are encouraging viewers to Be Kind.”
Meanwhile a source close to Jake slammed the claims saying: “This bears no resemblance to the Jake we know and love, who we hope viewers are seeing for themselves on screen.”
