More than 30 local neighbourhoods now in most severe Covid category
MORE than 30 neighbourhoods in the region are now in the government’s most severe covid category.
A total of 34 areas in the region recorded covid rates above 800 per 100,000 in the seven days to July 15.
In comparison, a week earlier, three areas had rates that high – which is an elevenfold rise in eight days.
Stoke Gifford in South Gloucestershire currently has the region’s highest rate (1,421.1) after 108 cases were confirmed in that seven-day period. It is followed by Headley Park (1,334.6) and Withywood (1,273.6) in South Bristol.
Twelve areas in the region have infection rates above 1,000 per 100,000 which is more than double the UK average (440.2) and means they are among the country’s worst.
While individual neighbourhoods may be recording higher rates, there are only seven local authorities across the country that have rates that high, with Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire currently having the UK’s worst rate (1,421.8).
Covid cases in Bristol have nearly doubled in the space of a fortnight.
