PEDESTRIAN IN HOSPITAL AFTER COLLISION ON DOWNS

AMAN is in hospital with life threatenin­g injuries after colliding with a bus in Bristol.

The incident involving a bus and pedestrian happened at Westbury Road on The Downs around 4pm on Saturday.

The pedestrian – a man in his 20s – remains in hospital.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, remains in a life-threatenin­g condition in hospital and enquiries are ongoing.”

The incident caused severe traffic congestion in the area as roads were closed for around six hours while police dealt with the incident, reopening at just before 9pm.

A police investigat­ion into the incident has been launched.

A spokesman for bus operator First West of England has confirmed that one of its buses wasinvolve­d.

The spokesman said: “We can confirm that there was an incident in Bristol in Westbury Road around 200 yards from the White Tree Roundabout involving one of our buses and a member of the public.

“First and foremost our thoughts are with the individual concerned and we have been working closely with the emergency services at the scene of this incident.

“We will also fully assist the relevant authoritie­s in the investigat­ion that will be undertaken including reviewing our onboard CCTV footage.

“We are not in a position to comment any further at this stage.”

The area was busier than usual at the time with the nearby Love Saves the Day festival attracting crowds of thousands to The Downs.
