Dame Sarah Storey has achieved her aim of becoming the most decorated British Paralympia­n, winning her 17th gold medal of an extraordin­ary career stretching back over eight Paralympic­s.

After cycling to victory in the C5 3,000m event on day one in Tokyo, she struck gold twice more in the time trial and road race.

As a 14-year-old swimmer, Sarah, who was born without a functionin­g left hand, won her first two gold medals – plus three silvers and a bronze – at Barcelona in 1992.

After adding ten more medals (three gold) at the next three Paralympic­s, she switched to cycling aged 28, winning two more golds at Beijing 2008, four at London 2012 and three at Rio 2016.
