Hostile witness
EMILIA FOX is back in her white protective overalls, camera in hand, which can only mean the return of this longrunning forensics crime show.
This is the 24th series, with five intriguing murder cases told across 10 gripping episodes, and it’s an actionpacked start to the first case, with a prison fight, sirens wailing, security guards running and inevitable violence.
Jack and Nikki are called to the high security prison afterwards when an inmate is found dead in suspicious circumstances and, as Nikki walks in, she immediately recognises someone and begins to have disturbing flashbacks.
Someone at the BBC was clearly given the job of digging out a load of archive footage for this one – as the man Nikki recognises is someone who popped up in an episode in series 13.
He is the victim’s cellmate, Scott Weston (Elliot Tittensor), the student responsible for a mass shooting Nikki had witnessed 10 years earlier.
Nikki becomes increasingly convinced that Scott is their prime suspect, but Jack worries she is holding a personal vendetta against the man because of their past and is not following the evidence.
As always, we’re drip fed clues… a security guard mentions debts being settled, letters under a bed, a whittled down toothbrush, a photo...
But does any of it matter when Nikki reckons she has her man?
Tune in tomorrow night for part two.
