YATE Town moved into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win at fellow Southern League Premier South side Dorchester Town.

Olly Mehew marked his return to the starting line-up with a 35thminute tap-in, and the striker scored again five minutes later after being set up by Dave Sims-Burgess.

Dorchester hit back just before the break when Sam Bayston prodded the ball over the goalline after Andrew Hannah had saved a shot from Oakley Hanger.

However, Sims-Burgess pounced in the 72nd minute to score Yate’s third after a James Harding shot had been parried by the home goalkeeper.

Weston-super-Mare will also be in today’s second qualifying round draw, but they also face a replay after being held 2-2 at home by Flackwell Heath.

Nick McCootie and Dayle Grubb both failed to hit the target early on, before Simeon Weekes forced Weston goalkeeper Luke Purnell into a save.

The visitors were the first to break the deadlock when a throw-in wasn’t dealt with by the Seagulls. The ball fell to Adam Thomas 18 yards out and his first-time strike nestled into the net via the post.

Grubb and Lucas Vowles then had chances to get back into the game, but both fired wide as Weston tried to ramp up the pressure.

It was to be McCootie who got the equalising goal when substitute Jay Murray’s cross was pushed away by Aaron Watkins but into a dangerous area, with the ball hitting the onrushing McCootie and rolling over the line for 1-1.

McCootie had a goal ruled out at the start of the second half, before Ashley Howell restored Flackwell’s

lead. He got the ball 18 yards out and curled a shot into the top corner of the net.

Jason Pope forced the replay, though, when he squeezed a leftfooted shot over the line from 18

yards following a scramble in the box.

Mangotsfield United were knocked out the competition with a 1-0 defeat at fellow Southern League Division One South side

Frome Town. George Rigg hit the post with a 25-yard drive for Frome, but the deadlock was broken five minutes later when Rex Mannings side-footed the ball home.

Mangotsfield goalkeeper Cameron

Pike tipped over a Marcus Mapstone effort early in the second half, and despite battling well throughout, Ray Johnston’s side never seriously threatened an equaliser.
