Dan’s good run ended by world number two

DAN Evans saw his hopes dashed by a straight-sets defeat at the hands of world number two Daniil Medvedev.

British number one Evans had made the second week at Flushing Meadows for the first time in his career, but his run was ended in the fourth round with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 defeat.

In the women’s singles, fifth seed Elina Svitolina produced a commanding performance to beat two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep and reach the US Open quarter-finals. The Ukrainian, who is bidding for her first Grand Slam title, beat Romania’s Halep 6-3, 6-3.
