ABRISTOL data science and digital services company has secured a two-year contract worth £8.3m with the Royal Navy.
The deal will see Queen’s Squarebased Techmodal become the Navy’s digital service programme partner for data science.
The business was acquired by BAE Systems in 2020 and employs around 120 staff and 30 associates.
It already has a number of longterm contracts with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in support of the UK’s armed forces, particularly the Army, Strategic Command and Royal Navy.
The latest contract will see Techmodal create a data science delivery cell with the Royal Navy’s Digital Services (NDS) division to help the force become a fully digital organisation by 2023.
According to Techmodal, the cell will provide it with “operational advantage” and will drive a digital culture.
Gareth Vaughan, managing director at Techmodal, said winning the work was a “fantastic outcome” for the team.
He said: “We are looking forward to getting stuck into tasks that will rapidly deliver lasting benefit to the
Royal Navy by unleashing the potential of their data.”
The MoD’s Defence Digital Initiative sets out how it plans to increase digital capabilities across
defence over the coming years.
Defence Digital brought together and replaced a number of organisations, including Information Systems and Services, in 2019.
The Defence Digital organisation has an annual budget of over £2bn and a team of around 2,400 personnel including military, civil servants and contractors.
