SLOUCHY DOESN’T MEAN SLOBBY
I can’t be the only person who hasn’t been on a plane since 2019, can I?
I have lowered myself into the travel pool slowly, a weekend here, a night there.
I am most certainly not the only person who has seen more of England and Wales in the past 12 months than in the last 12 years. So many of us have made the most of our beautiful coastlines while travelling further had strings attached, thanks to the pandemic.
Vaccines aside, travel for me isn’t as easy as it once was. All this time with restricted movement has pushed me further into the safety of my creature comforts.
Travel now requires I take those comforts with me. Yes, I am that person.
I always take my own pillowcase and acupuncture mat, and if circumstances allow, I take my own pillow.
My justification for this diva behaviour is that I find comfort in the familiar and I have difficulty sleeping, so technically these are necessities.
The reality is that I am a comfort seeker, always have been.
I scoff when magazines declare death to the athleisure trend in order to revive the sales of heels, dresses and other structured garments.
It isn’t that I want to wear pyjamas or track pants for the rest of my life, but anything restrictive is off the menu.
Slouchy doesn’t mean slobby. I’m talking relaxed fit, a little oversized, not comedy oversized just loose and easy, no cinching at the waist, nothing that digs in or pinches.
One item I am happy to ditch elastic waists for is wide-leg trousers.
Ideally they would be vintage menswear, but they’re usually all mid-rise and I want mine high-waisted.

The belt loops mean they look awesome with a smart belt.
Tuck in a loose shirt, vest or a T-shirt, pretty much anything works up top and add loafers, trainers or a chunky sandal.
When you look cool but feel comfortable, you
can thank me later.
