Driver of stolen vehicle rams police car trying to evade arrest

A STREET in Bristol was closed yesterday after police responded to reports of a stolen car, which led the driver to ram a police vehicle in the driver’s attempt to evade arrest.

During the struggle, one member of the public was hospitalis­ed with ‘serious injuries’ which are not believed to be life-threatenin­g.

Three police cars were also damaged in the incident which happened just after midday and took place off Summerhill Road in St George.

The driver was subsequent­ly arrested and was last night in custody.

A spokespers­on for Avon & Somerset Police said: “Officers responded to a report a car had been stolen from an address in St George.

“The driver of the stolen vehicle subsequent­ly rammed a police car while attempting to evade arrest just off Summerhill Road.

“Three police cars were damaged in the incident and a member of the public was also injured.

“They have since been taken to hospital with injuries which are serious but aren’t believed to be lifethreat­ening.”
