Wedding licence for Winter Gardens

-

WEDDING ceremonies are to be held at Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens for the first time.

The seafront venue, owned by Weston College Group, has secured a licence to hold weddings and civil ceremonies.

The venue can host weddings and receptions for up to 600 people. The move is part of a new partnership between the Weston College Group and The Winter Gardens Hospitality Group.

The management of the group comes from HotelBiz and the town’s Royal Hotel.

The two management teams have come together to combine their expertise and local knowledge to form The Winter Gardens Hospitality Group. As well as weddings there are also plans to revive the Winter Gardens’ heyday with concerts, comedy nights, dances, balls and corporate dinners and conferences.

Lasseter’s restaurant and wine bar will also undergo a revamp in the New Year while the popular Green House, which opened in 2020, will continue to serve coffee and lunch along with the addition of Sunday Lunch which has launched in the last few weeks.

Weston College bought the Winter Gardens from North Somerset Council for just £1 in 2015. A multi million pound refurbishment followed which saw the ballroom restored to its former glory along with many other original features.

The famous Italian Gardens were also preserved and upgraded.

Weston College Group principal and chief executive Sir Paul Phillips said: “I do not underestimate the importance of the Winter Gardens to the town and our community. It’s a hugely important feature of Weston-super-Mare’s history and landscape and this partnership is determined to keep it that way.”
