Arrest made after police chase car

A MAN has been arrested following a car chase in Bristol that also involved the police helicopter.

Avon and Somerset Police officers pursued a Vauxhall Corsa, which they suspected had been stolen, in the Knowle area of the city.

Officers were called out at around 2.20pm on Monday when the car was spotted driving along Throgmorto­n Road.

A chase began, with the National Police Air Service helicopter helping officers on the ground.

Eventually, the driver abandoned the vehicle and a person was seen running through gardens.

A man was arrested by officers on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

A statement from the force said: “A man is in custody after being arrested in Bristol on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

“At approximat­ely 2.20pm today (Monday), officers sighted a suspected stolen vehicle being driven in Throgmorto­n Road in Knowle.

“Officers pursued the Vauxhall Corsa, with support from the National Police Air Service helicopter, and the vehicle was subsequent­ly abandoned a short distance away.

“A person was seen making off on foot through private gardens, but he was soon detained by officers. He remains in custody and inquiries continue.”
