Appeal after alleged assault on police officer

A MAN was arrested after allegedly assaulting an officer before a Bristol City football match, Avon and Somerset Police has said.

An altercation broke out around 2.50pm on Ashton Road, ahead of Bristol City’s home game against Watford on Saturday which resulted in police officers intervening.

During the event, a man knocked an officer to the ground. The officer sustained minor injuries but remained on duty.

An 18-year-old man from Hertfordshire was arrested. He has since been released on conditional bail.

Police are asking members of the public to aid their enquiries. A spokesperson for the force said: “We’re particularly keen to hear from a potential witness who helped the officer to their feet.”
