Appeal after alleged assault on police officer

A MAN was arrested after allegedly assaulting an officer before a Bristol City football match, Avon and Somerset Police has said.

An altercatio­n broke out around 2.50pm on Ashton Road, ahead of Bristol City’s home game against Watford on Saturday which resulted in police officers intervenin­g.

During the event, a man knocked an officer to the ground. The officer sustained minor injuries but remained on duty.

An 18-year-old man from Hertfordsh­ire was arrested. He has since been released on conditiona­l bail.

Police are asking members of the public to aid their enquiries. A spokespers­on for the force said: “We’re particular­ly keen to hear from a potential witness who helped the officer to their feet.”
