Suburban Avonmouth go marching on in Premier with win over Rockleaze

PRIDE of place last Saturday went to Bristol Spartak after a 3-1 home win against Castle Cary in the Somerset Senior Cup second round.

Premier Division leaders Avonmouth were held in a goalless first half at Hillside Gardens against Rockleaze Rangers Reserves. However, substitute Jack Williams scored five minutes into the second half, then Josh Pearce kept up his record of scoring in every game with the second goal. Charlie Aldom added the third in the 90th minute. It was goalkeeper Tom Bradley’s sixth successive clean sheet.

Jack Willmor and Frazer Venables bagged braces for secondplac­ed Filton Athletic in a 4-0 win against Parson Street OB.

Ben Crewe and Brad Selwood were on target for Broad Plain House in a 2-1 win at home to Mangotsfie­ld United Reserves.

Doubles from Andy Knight and Jason Fussell earned Old Cothamiams a 4-2 home win over Easton Cowboys.

The top teams in the Senior Division gained away wins. Redbridge are in pole position courtesy of a 3-0 win at third-placed Jamaica Bell, with Ed Searle (2) and Jake Oliver their goalscorer­s.

Second-placed Southmead Athletic won 6-3 at AFC Whitchurch, whose goals came from George Snowden (2) and Jamie Churches.

Fourth-placed Stoke Gifford United Reserves beat Fishponds OB 3-1. Ben Morris scored for Fishponds.

At the Field, Almondsbur­y Reserves gained their second win of the season, 5-2 against Stockwood Wanderers Reserves. Sinclair Leigh-Sucheki scored for Cosmos in a 3-1 defeat to Hartcliffe at Somerdale.

The Division One top two teams continued their 100 per cent records. Leaders St Vallier have won all seven games after goals from Billy Reed (2), Perran Blundell (2), Daryl Cazley, Joshua and Thomas Butt gave them a 7-0 win at Mangotsfie­ld United A.

Easton Cowboys Reserves took their winning run to five games with a 3-1 home success over Filton Athletic Reserves, thanks to strikes from Kamal Yason (2) and Alessandro Lingua.

Little Stoke Reserves edged out visitors Ridings High 3-2 at Little Stoke Playing Fields.

Abdirazak Hussein struck twice, with Jamal Hussein and Abdullahi Mohamed also on target, in a 4-2 home win for Phoenix NG against Old Cothamians Reserves.

Division Two leaders Broad Plain House Reserves travelled to Frome Collegians Reserves in the Somerset Junior Cup and won 3-2. They are joined in the next round by Imperial Reserves, who beat Churchill 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Cutters Friday Reserves lost 4-0 at Wells City A.

Stokside moved up to second in Division Two with a 4-2 home win over Rockleaze Rangers B. Barry Cripps (2), Ronny Adams and Skip Horseman scored their goals.

Alex Photiou struck twice to help Wessex Wanderers Reserves to a 3-2 victory over Lawrence Weston Reserves, with Abdel Shehadeh their other scorer.

Tom Weaver scored for Long Ashton in a 4-1 defeat at Somerdale against Redbridge Reserves.

FC Union won the top-of-thetable clash with leaders Socius United 2-1, thanks to goals from Mitch Payer and Ben Thomas. Dave Bennett replied for United.

Following a bad start to the season, Supreme Sports have won three games in a row. Troy McCarthy, Jimmy House and Chris Reynudo were their marksmen in a 3-1 win against Old Georgians.

Antonio Sanfilippo scored both goals to earn St Aldhelms Reserves a point at home to Little Stoke A.

Daryl Litten and Jimmy Potts were on target for Fishponds OB Reserves in a 2-2 draw with Hanham Abbotonian­s Reserves.
