Posh Spice more of a flop than a hit

-

AN Indian restaurant in Nailsea has been given a one star food hygiene rating – after inspectors raised concerns about its cleanliness and food safety.

North Somerset Council environmental health officers inspected Posh Spice in Nailsea High Street in September.

Inspectors raised concerns in a number of categories and said ‘major improvements’ were needed to the management of food safety. The inspection team said a system or checks are needed to be in place to ensure that food sold was safe to eat.

They also said that evidence was needed to show staff know about food safety. Inspectors said that improvements were needed to the restaurant’s hygienic food handling, including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage.

The inspection highlighted that improvements were also needed to the cleanliness and condition of the building and its facilities. The restaurant – which shares the name of famous Spice Girl Victoria Beckham – is a popular eaterie in the town and in the past has won awards for its cuisine.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “We carried out a routine hygiene inspection at Posh Spice in Nailsea on 15 September. The premises was given a one rating and will now work with us to improve the hygiene standard.”

Posh Spice was approached for comment.
