Ex-Forest Green boss Edwards takes up Luton hot-seat

-

LUTON Town yesterday named ex-Watford and Forest Green Rovers boss Rob Edwards as their new manager.

The 39-year-old, who has been appointed on a “minimum threeand-a-half year” deal, was quoted on the Hatters’ website as saying: “From the outside, looking in at Luton Town, you see such a well-run football club.”

Edwards joined Luton’s Championship rivals Watford in May after guiding Forest Green to promotion from League Two last season. But he was sacked on September 26 after 11 games in charge, of which he had won three.

Luton’s previous manager Nathan Jones left Kenilworth Road last week to take over at struggling Premier League side Southampton.

Following a playing career that began at Aston Villa and included spells at Wolves, Blackpool and Barnsley, Edwards retired at 30. He had two games in charge of Wolves as interim boss in 2016 and a season as AFC Telford boss before becoming head coach of England’s under-16s team.

He was appointed Forest Green boss in May 2021 and they went up as champions last term. Watford are fourth in the Championship, six places above Luton, and won 4-0 when the two met at Vicarage Road in October.
