A win-win-win situation

-

ONE way to help tackle the cost of living crisis is to make it cheaper and easier for people who want to to get around using “active travel”. That means walking and cycling, both of which are cheap, and rising in popularity.

Not everyone will do this, of course, so we need space for cars and buses and trains, we do. Maybe even bring back trams in due course. (Why not? Birmingham has trams and also Nottingham).

So let’s increase walking and cycling capacity to encourage more people to cycle around. It’s far, far cheaper than a car. And if we put in more cycling lanes, then e-scooters which are cheap and popular can use them.

Bristol needs a decent network of cycle lanes. This will also help drivers by freeing up some roadspace, and help the NHS by helping people stay fit. A proper cycle network is win-win-win!
