Santa’s all set for his festive tour through town streets

-

SANTA will be making his annual tour of the streets of Portishead this Christmas. The Santa float, run by Portishead Lions Club, has been a highlight of the Christmas calendar for the past 10 years.

The man in the red suit will be touring the streets between December 1 and 22, taking present requests along the way. He will be helped on his travels by local army cadets.

Santa will make his first visit to Portishead at The Sperrings Christmas Market at Sperrings Equestrian Centre, Moor Lane, Clapton-in-Gordano this Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.

The event will be packed full of handcrafted treats, homewares and gifts, and there will be mulled wine and carol singing. Local producers will be taking Christmas orders for everything from meat, fruit and vegetables to Christmas trees.

There will also be free on-site parking and a shuttle bus will be running to and from Portishead.

A market spokesman said: “It’s all about helping members of the local community to shop locally this festive season.

“In addition to providing a great shopping experience for everyone, our Christmas market will provide a platform for small local businesses, especially those who work from home, to promote themselves.”

After his stop-off at the market, Santa will also be at Aldi on December 3 before moving onto Sainsbury’s on December 10. He will then be at Portishead precinct on December 17.

He will also be making an appearance at the switch-on of Portishead’s Christmas lights on November 28 at 6.15pm, ready for the switch to be flicked at 6.45pm.

Each year the Santa float raises thousands of pounds for local charities.
