Pub’s improved toilets win award

-

A PUB whose toilets were once described as ‘disgusting’ by a customer has now won a top award for their cleanliness.

Customer Emma Michelle claims she was forced to clean the lavatories before using them at the Posset Cup in Portishead in September after finding them covered in human excrement.

But now, just weeks later, the toilets at the Harbour Road venue have won a top accolade in the Loo of the Year Awards. The pub received the highest grade of diamond for its conveniences. The awards grade toilets as silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond, with unacceptable toilets not graded.

The diamond rating is the highest grade in the awards, which focus on cleanliness and the provision of well-maintained facilities to meet all user needs. The toilets are judged on criteria, including decor, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

A delighted Posset Cup manager, Shane Thompson, said: “Staff ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times.”

The Glassmaker in Nailsea, where the toilets have also been criticised in the past, secured a platinum rating. The inspectors were also impressed with the facilities at The Cabot Court Hotel on Weston-super-Mare seafront, which they graded as platinum. Loo of the Year Awards inspectors made unannounced judging visits to thousands of public toilets across the UK.
