YATE Town gained a muchneeded Southern League Premier South victory with a remarkable 5-4 win againsnt Gosport Borough at Lodge Road.

Yate fell behind in the first minute to Dan Wooden’s strike, but Kyle Tooze equalised in the 14th minute with a shot into the bottom corner of the net after being set up by Alex Lambert.

Ben McLean fired Yate in front on 20 minutes with a brilliant strike, and Zach Drew made it 3-1 just a few minutes later with a superb curling effort.

Brett Williams reduced the arrears just before half-time, and his second goal in the 62nd minute brought the game level at 3-3.

Five minutes later, though, Tooze burst down the left and cut inside before blasting hiome his second of the game.

Drew latched on to a poor back pass to score Yate’s fifth in the 70th minute, and although Issiaga Kaba gabe Gosport hope with their fourth goal in the 80th minute, Yate held out to secure the three points.

Second-placed Weston-superMare were beaten for only the second time in the league this season, as Scott Bartlett’s side lost 1-0 at Beaconsifeld Town.

Weston striker Reuben Reid saw his shot clip the outside of the post in the early stages, then he and Marlon Jackson both had efforts saved, and Scott Laird sent a glancing header over the crossbar, in a goalless first half.

Reid had two more shots saved before the decisive goal arrived in the 68th minute. Beaconsfield capitalised on a poor pass at the back by Weston, and the ball was squared for Elliott Buchanan to score.

Reid again tested the home goalkeeper, while Dayle Grubb had a freekick saved as Weston failed to sallvage a point.

Bristol Manor Farm suffered a third successive defeat in Southern

League Division South - and it couldn’t have come in more agonising fashion at Wimborne Town.

Harry Baker gave the home side a 27th-minute lead, only for Josh Ford to equalise on 62 minutes with a header from Jake Gosling’s corner.

The real drama, though, came in stoppage-time. A cross from Oakley Hanger avoided everyone and found the back of the net to put Wimborne back in front, but Marcus Day immediately brought Manor Farm level with a shot into the bottom corner of the net following a corner.

However, with the game in the seventh minute of stoppage-time, Wimborne grabbed a winner when David Bartlett lobbed goalkeeper Ben John from near the halfway line.

There was disappointment, too, for Paulton Rovers as a 2-0 defeat at home to leaders Sholing left the new management team of Craig Loxton and John Durbin still searching for their first win.

Fatah Makhloufi broke the deadlock on 38 minutes, and Lee Wort added the second just before the break.
