Women’s rugby Bears well beaten by Gloucester-Hartpury

BRISTOL Bears suffered a 36-5 defeat away to Gloucester-Hartpury in the second round of the Allianz Premier 15s at the ALPAS Arena.

Phoebe Murray was the Bears only try scorer on a dreary day in Gloucester­shire.

Hartpury included doubles for Neve Jones and Ellie Rugman, with Mia Venner and Emma Sing joining them on the scoresheet.

The Bears’ only points came from Murray, who broke through Hartpury’s defence at pace and dived over the whitewash in the first half.

Both teams saw yellow cards in the second half. Grace White was the first to depart after not rolling away at the breakdown five metres out from the Bears tryline, then Sarah Beckett, for Gloucester-Hartpury, saw yellow for a high tackle on Reneeqa Bonner.

Courtney Keight was sublime under the high ball and was one of the Bears’ most impactful ball carries. .

The Bears sit in third place in the Allianz Premier 15s table ahead of a home match this Saturday against DMP.
