7 EASY CUTS YOU WON’T REGRET
1. SUBSCRIPTIONS
Check through your direct debits and regular payments for subscriptions that don’t offer you enough value to be worth the money. Is there a TV subscription you pay a small fortune for but only use to watch the odd programme? Are you paying for music streaming when you can get it for free, at the small cost of putting up with a few adverts?
2. MARKETING EMAILS
Be wary of giving out your email to shops – once they’ve got it you’ll be bombarded with marketing mailers. When you’re scrolling through your phone, there’s always the temptation to click through and spend your money. If you unsubscribe, you won’t have this prompt to spend.
3. BRANDS
Trading down on everything from groceries to toiletries, clothes and shoes means you’re no longer paying for a name. You can still buy the same quality for much less.
4. NEWNESS
If you’re keen to stick with brands for clothes and shoes, consider buying secondhand. If they are made to last you could get fashion for less.
5. LOYALTY
If you stick with the same provider for everything from your credit card to car insurance, you’re likely paying over the odds for at least some. Ditch loyalty for shopping around and you’ll skip the waste.
6. DUPLICATIONS
Check the small print of things like packaged bank accounts or membership of organisations to see what benefits are included. There’s no point doubling up and paying for these things separately as well.
7. ADD-ONS
When you’re buying insurance, some add-ons are worth their weight in gold – like adding a bike to home insurance if you live in an area prone to thefts. However, don’t assume all add-ons are worth the money. Think about the specific risks you face and prioritise those that will be useful/ worthwhile for your needs.
