ONE LAST THING

-

I love a good carol – by which I mean the Oh Come All Ye Faithful kind, not the Vorderman kind – so I was saddened to read half of young Brits have never sung a traditional Christmas carol.

New research by Groupon suggests 18- to 29-year-olds think they are ‘outdated and old fashioned’ and prefer festive pop tunes instead.

Kids, you don’t know what you’re missing.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in tune or not, accompanied by a mighty church organ or the off-key recorder group from Year 5, with friends and family or a bunch of strangers, carols are as much a part of the festive season as mince pies, mulled wine and Morecambe and Wise repeats. And never more so this year, with Covid restrictions now relaxed.

Perhaps I’m just sentimental or old fashioned or both but give me Oh Little Town of Bethlehem over Noddy Holder any day.
