Misery in the meantime

-

THE idea that the Central Library could be given over to a school is absurd.

Marvin Rees and the Cabinet need to go back to school if they think that selling off the Central Library would wash.

It’s the latest in a long line of daftas-a-brush ideas from the city council. Thank goodness Marvin Rees will no longer be Mayor in less than a couple of years. It seems he is just trying to pack in as much misery as he can in the meantime.

The Central Library is the jewel in the crown of the library service.

It was built as a library and it should stay as a library. It is immensely popular with the public and with students. The facilities are first class.

It would be damaging and criminally insane to let the library pass to private use. Schools are great but they can keep their demesne to the basement.

No, Bristol must keep and enhance the precious Central Library. The council will have to make efficiency savings. It is bloated as it is.

Maybe we should cut Cabinet pay, since that is way too high. And cut the bloated pensions of some former staff. Means test them. Anyone getting more than two-thirds the national median salary is not in need of a council pension.
