Thrown in at the deep end
GRANITE HARBOUR BBC1, 7pm
THIS latest police drama could almost be a Death In Paradise spin-off about a job exchange programme.
Although it’s quite clear who gets the better end of the deal.
While one cop arrived in the Caribbean to solve crimes, this series sees a Jamaican soldier follow his detective dreams to Aberdeen.
Cold, wet, Scotland where he doesn’t exactly get the best welcome.
Romario Simpson plays Lance Corporal Davis Lindo, a new recruit on the DUO (diversity, unity, opportunity) Commonality programme, retraining commonwealth soldiers in the UK emergency services.
Having completed his final tour with the Royal Military Police, Lindo dreams of being a detective at New Scotland Yard.
However, he must first train as a Detective Constable in Aberdeen, a world away from anything he has known before.
Jamaica apparently is “not the place for me”, which is said alongside a moody, faraway look that screams ‘traumatic back story’.
Lindo is determined to win everyone over and earn his place.
He finds an ally in his mentor, DCI Tara ‘Bart’ Bartlett, a razorsharp, streetwise Aberdonian who is used to going solo.
There’s fish-out-of-water comedy as Lindo finds his feet, but there’s not much time to worry as there’s a murder to solve.
It’s the killing of a divisive oil industry boss and the trainee and his partner are thrown into a corporate battle between old and new energy.
The high profile death stuns the city, leading to a murder investigation with historic roots as Lindo is thrown in at the deep end.
