POUND NOTES

-

■ Unused smartphone data that’s wiped at the end of each month is costing the nation’s mobile phone users £260million month.

On average each of us loses 94GB of the data we pay for each year, costing £84 a year per person.

Users typically have nearly half of their data left over at the end of each month – maybe because two in five pay for more data in case they run out, according to Sky Mobile.

■ Workers in their mid to late careers are feeling the pinch from the cost of living crisis. Almost three quarters aged 45 to 65 have cut their spending, while a further two in five have either done that or stopped saving towards retirement.

Financial pressure is leading to increased anxiety as two thirds say they feel anxious or stressed about the impact money worries are having on their lives and more than half are concerned about the consequences for their pensions.

The research from retirement specialist Just Group also found half of these workers feel their employer should provide financial advice to support them through these tough times.

■ It’s not something we like to chat about but we do need to start the conversation with loved ones around funerals and death – or we could be hit with unexpected costs.

Just one in five people have put a plan in place for their own funeral and this has left more than a third of people who recently organised a funeral finding costs to be higher than expected – around £4,180.

Meanwhile two in five had to use their own money to cover funeral costs, according to data from Everest, a funeral concierge service based in the US and Canada.
