Kane’s penalty earns crucial win for Patchway

IN a ‘six-pointer’ at the bottom of the league, Patchway Town took the three points against Scott Park visitors Quedgeley Wanderers with a 1-0 win to swap places.

The goal came midway through the second half when Tate Shaw was put through by Sam Finn, who pushed the ball past Kieran Derbyshire but was brought down. Kane Bartholome­w’s powerful spotkick found the net via Derbyshire’s hand.

On a cold day at Hillside Gardens, two in-form teams met and it was Rockleaze Rangers who lifted themselves up to fourth with a fifth win in a row, this time 1-0 over Frampton United.

The goal came on 66 minutes when a corner swung in by Henry Jones was met with a towering Mike Perham header. Frampton came close in the closing minutes when a cross from Fin Blythe struck the top of the crossbar.

Stoke Gifford United thumped Cheltenham Civil Service 6-1, flying out of the traps for a first-minute lead, with Devanti McInerney firing home from 18 yards.

The lead was doubled on 15 minutes with good work by Paul Cronin leading to Kray Foster rifling home from 20 yards. It was 3-0 on the half-hour, when Cronin set up McInerney to score.

Brad Probert added the fourth on 38 minutes when his tireless pressing led to a deflected finish. Service pulled one back on 40 minutes when Kieran Taylor had a free header from 12 yards.

In the second half, Mike Barry scored Stoke Gifford’s fifth, then Tauren Williams picked out McInerney, who slotted home for his hat-trick.

At Oldbury Lane, Wick and Henbury needed points to improve their positions and it was Wick that ran out 2-0 winners.

Joe Beardmore scored the opening goal in the 15th minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the Henbury box and stabbed home.

Wick gave themselves breathing space in the 80th minute when a cross from Beardwell was headed home by Jay Vile.

In a Les James Cup tie at Pomphrey Hill, Bromley Heath United beat Cribbs Reserves 2-1.

Alvin Nurse gave Bromley Heath the lead just before half-time, and Antonio Nurse added the second five minutes into the second half. Soon after, Aaron Coleman pulled a goal back with a deflected effort.

Cup holders Little Stoke progressed to the last four with a 3-2 win at Gala Wilton, where the hosts had a late penalty superbly saved by Connolly Jarrett. Luke Meacham (2) and Luke Allen scored for Little Stoke.
