After Life star bringing his Armageddon tour to city

-

RICKY Gervais is bringing his world-famous Armageddon tour to the Bristol Beacon in December.

Fans who want to see the comic will have to move fast as some of his dates at other venues have already sold out.

A spokesperson for Bristol Beacon said: “The creator and star of The Office, Extras, Derek, and the critically acclaimed recent hit After Life (Netflix), Ricky Gervais has won countless awards. Having enjoyed huge critical success for the outstanding first series of After Life, which was released on Netflix in March 2019, Ricky has since written and finished filming on a second series, which will land on Netflix in 2020. His hit series The Office is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries with seven remakes.”

Reviewers from the show say it pushes the boundaries further than his Netflix special SuperNature. This show sparked a backlash after his comments about transgender people, joking that ‘old-fashioned women’ are ‘the ones with wombs’ and that he’s transitioning to become ‘Vicky Gervais.’ Gervais defended the programme, saying he wanted to take the “audience to a place it hasn’t been before”. He told BBC One’s The One Show: “I think that’s what comedy is for, really - to get us through stuff, and I deal in taboo subjects because I want to take the audience to a place it hasn’t been before, even for a split second.”

Tickets for the shows on December 11 and 12 have not yet gone on sale but you can register an interest via the Beacon’s website.
