Down closing in on Senior crown after double triumph

BEDMINSTER Down require a maximum of two points from their final two games to win the District League Senior Division title.

Bedminster followed up Saturday’s 5-1 win against Henbury Reserves with a 3-0 success at Pucklechur­ch Sports on Tuesday night to move seven points clear of title rivals Lion, who have three games left to play and a much inferior goal difference.

Lion’s hopes were hit by a 3-3 draw at Winterbour­ne United Reserves last Saturday, in which Joshua Armstrong and Ryan Robinson both scored.

Third-placed Bendix beat Iron Acton Reserves 7-1, Pucklechur­ch Sports won 2-1 at De Veys, while Totterdown United Reserves had a 3-1 home victory aganst Bradley Stoke Town Reserves.

Unbeaten Division One leaders Hanham Athletic Reserves won 6-0 at Sea Mills Park.

Michael Pepper’s hat-trick, plus a Craig Tottle strike, fired third-placed Hallen A to a 4-1 win against Hanham Abbotonian­s at Moorhouse Lane.

Seymour United won 3-1 at Hambrook Reserves, while Ross Walker’s hat-trick, and a goal from Jack Deacon, secured a 4-2 win for Highridge United Reserves against Brimsham Green. James Moore scored for Olveston United Reserves in a 3-1 home defeat to DRG Frenchay Reserves.

Redfield Rovers remain favourites for the Division Two title despite losing 3-1 at home to closests challenger­s Longwell Green Sports B.

Third-placed Shaftesbur­y Crusade Reserves won 3-2 at Bitton Reserves, while fourthplac­ed Made For Ever Reserves had a 5-2 home triumph against Pucklechur­ch Sport Reserves.

Iron Acton A edged out Greyfriars Athletic Reserves 5-4, while Fry Club A thrashed Real St George 9-0.

Shirehampt­on A boosted hopes of winning the Division Three title with a 3-1 win against Nicholas Wanderers A on Saturday and a 4-0 victory against FC United of Yate on Tuesday. However, FC Rangers, two points behind with a game in hand, remain slight favourites despite being held to a 3-3 draw at FC United of Yate on Saturday.

Two goals from Aiden Hill led Hallen B to a 6-0 victory at bottom side Seymour United Reserves.
